Combat Commander: Sealion two more scenarios played

Couple more scenarios from Sealion Battle Pack played with my Dad.

Honours even as I won first and Dad second.

As ever superb experience with this excellent system.
Excitement, frustration (where are those damn Move cards !!??) in equal measure with a great narrative generated.

Great stuff and one of the best value for money games I have bought due to sheer replay value and very much a 'go to' game.

British attacking a German HQ area. Thinly defended and easily outflanked as Dusk falls (an increasing level of LOS Hindrance as game progresses)

US friends try, but fail, to retake an RAF base. Very little cover and breezes kept blowing away US smoke !

Combat Commander - Op Sealion two scenarios played

First outing with my latest CC expansion pack Op Sealion 1940.
Two scenarios played both very interesting and close affairs.
First had Fallschirmjager attacking a village near Hastings which was ably defended by some 'Home Guard' types with reinforcing Regulars.
I got lucky here with a British Support table roll granting me a 152mm Radio which minced a couple of FJ squads.
Second scenario was set in Bognor Regis with a Whermacht assault on the rearward aspect of some seaward defences including a 25pdr on a pier.
This one was very close as both 1 unit from surrender but British managed to win with a narrow VP victory after several Time Checks.
Great stuff as usual with this game.

Combat Commander three in a row

Three scenarios from the Tournament Pack played tonight against my Dad.

First up had Russians against Germans in an undulating plain with Ivans coming out on top after destroying a Fascist HMG nest.

Second had Cannucks versus a veritable Italian wall of barbed wire and soldiers ! Canadians pummeled in this one.

And third Ivans against Finns in winter tundra with Russkies coming out victors after several hard fought assaults forcing Finns to surrender.

Great stuff once more and we discovered (even after all the games we have played) that we have been using Leaders somewhat incorrectly.
We have been adding Leadership factor 'on top' of a single attack without realizing they can upgrade firepower of each unit they are stacked with both for fire and in melee, making them much more potent !

Combat Commander - two more scenarios

Another couple of games with my Dad tonight (on eve of his 74th birthday) with the ever excellent Combat Commander.

We played 2 scenarios from Tournament pack.

First had my Yank patrol facing a Kraut patrol in the Ardennes and the second saw !st Airbourne assailed at Arnhem by SS.

Two great games as ever the first narrowly won by my Yanks the second by my Brits.

Combat Commander takes the field again

Been a bloody awful month for wargaming overall (roll on retirement in July !) but managed a set of three games of Combat Commander tonight with my Dad.
The scenarios were from a set of WBC 2009 Tournament games.
First up saw my Dad with Germans as usual in Normandy against Yanks.
A narrow win for the Germans as Sudden Death saw game end with 2 German VPs mainly due to relentless Time triggers.
Second game had some Elite Ivans against his Nazis in Germany 1945 with Fascists hampered by a 2 Action hand.
Judicious (and somewhat lucky) use of Smoke Grenades saw Ivan Assault units thump into a building defended with Bunkers with Satchel Charges and Flamethrowers chewing up SS and lesser defenders for an easy Russian win.
Last game had French in 1940 facing Teds again.
Bloody French hand discard of one is very frustrating and the Germans were able to pick of a key VP location early on and again a quick march to Sudden Death roll saw them win.
Great stuff with a great game.

I also took plunge on latest iteration of the Combat Commander system
Great War Commander and look forward to its arrival despite the lack of British in initial release !!!

Combat Commander - two scenarios played

Couple of scenarios (from the Tournament Pack) played with my Dad with this continually excellent game.
First saw me defend with Polish troops in 1939 and a narrow win achieved.
Second was set in Ardennes 1944 with a clash of Recce units with my Yanks coming out on top again, and again narrowly.

Combat Commander - couple of 1940 scenarios played

Another two excellent games of CC:E with my Dad playing two scenarios from the Blitzkrieg In The west scenario pack.
I was of course French both games therefore lumbered with their awful 1 discard limit.
First scenario saw use of 4 French FCM 35 tanks (a combo of 60mm Mortar and an HMG with Foxhole defence level) the 2nd had 2 PzIII (81mm Mortar an HMG and an LMG with Trench defence).
Tanks are well rendered considering limitations of the game system but one does get fixated on them using lots of cards that would probably be more advantageous for Infantry groupings.
French lost 1st game narrowly but were absolutely trounced in 2nd as simply could not get any fire cards into their 4 card defenders hand !
Great stuff as ever with CC

French armour approaches German defenders

Panzer attacking across railway line

Also managed to purchase a couple of new board wargames (first in awhile)

Combat Commander - 1940 scenarios in triplicate

Been awhile but got CC:E back onto table with my Dad tonight playing 3 scenarios from the 1940 Fall Of The West battle pack.
First had BEF defending Dunkirk perimeter, the second Brits again defending in Norway and third had French in well France.
Nasty old Huns lost all three but the last was exceedingly close.
As always exciting play with this most excellent game system.
