Hannibal Rome vs Carthage played

Played this old Avalon Hill title with my Dad managing to get in two plays in one night.

Such a good game and I found the Battle Card system very nostalgic indeed.

I played Carthage both times and almost took Rome in both games but lost Hannibal himself to Rome counterattack (in AH version this is auto win for Rome although I think in latest rules this is not so ?).

Such fun with this game especially exciting when Carthage sends an army by sea !

Catching up again.......

Busy again so a brief catch-up on gaming activity.

Managed a couple of plays of Combat Commander with my Dad.
Both scenarios from the original CC:Europe set.
First set in Ste Mere Eglise and the second an anti-Partisan sweep in the east.

Also managed to catch up with a few ongoing Vassal Pbem games.

Hannibal: Rome Vs Carthage (vs Vita)

No Peace Without Spain (vs David Pentland who is going for the jugular at Paris !)

 The Dark Valley (vs Mike)

Turning Point Stalingrad with last stand of Red Army (vs Stefano)

And an EBay purchase of a title I have been looking for

Board Wargames ongoing online................

Just a few screenshots from several (ie too many !) Vassal (and one Cyberboard) PBEM games I have going at present.
Vassal has really helped rejuvenate my interest in Board Wargames however to the detriment of my figure painting and bank balance !!

This is Paths Of Glory (Cyberboard version) with Western Front situation in 1915 with Germans mounting an assault on my British and Belgiums at Brussels

Age of Napoleon game circa 1807 against aptly named Greig Goodfellow with me upholding Allied cause against the Ogre

WW2 Barbarossa To Berlin (one of my favourite games) in which my Allies are getting royally duffed having lost North Africa the Caucasus and at one point Moscow !!

Bitter Woods an Avalon Hill (RIP) game my first time playing. I am US forces having a hard time stemming Nazi tide (good luck spotting US units !!)

Southern sector

Northern sector (with Liege in trouble)

Kingdom Of Heaven against ex-pat Norman playing as Crusaders in Third Crusade scenario. I have suffered a lot from attrition and disease but both Richard and Saladin have powerful armies heading for a showdown.

Northern region

Southern region where I am besieging Jerusalem and suffering awfully to epidemic disease !

Liberty Roads another first time try with me as defenders of Third Reich. Renny my fresh opponent has invaded in Brittany and is firmly ashore. An interesting game this one with no ZOC !! and some nice 'chrome' such as Support Counter draws.

Turning Point Stalingrad another old Avalon Hill (RIP) title I had for years but now playing for first time in anger !! Tough situation for Ivans (ie yours truly).

Soviet remaining 'strongholds' in the northern enclaves of the city

The overall situation with Nazis having cleared southern Stalingrad

And last but not least Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage another AH title I have not played in years. Note this Vassal module uses the newer Phalanx Games Edition board and counters (which I find a little cluttered and indistinct on Vassal)

Twilight Struggle vs my son and ongoing Vassal games

Played Twilight Struggle today against my lad Steven. And low and behold I managed a win for once.
I played as the USSR achieving an auto win in the mid-war period.
Cue much crowing and dancing !
As ever a nice game to play with each turn generating a hand you have to play as best you can whilst trying to achieve your strategic aims.
Not a 'true' wargame as such but a fine and fun game of itself.

Several ongoing PBEM games via Vassal on my schedule at present:

Another Twilight Struggle game (which I have just lost on last turn as USA)

Turning Point Stalingrad game (into its fourth turn 16th September 1942)

Barbarossa To Berlin (with me as Axis) facing massive Red build up having failed to advance far into Russia.

Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage (using AH rules but newer board on Vassal) with me as Rome. Hannibal rampant in Italy but Varro now in Western Numidia

Bitter Woods (am brand new to this one) with me commanding US troops (AH 2nd edition rules on L2 Vassal map). Yanks are really thin on ground at start !

Another Barbarossa To Berlin game with me as Allies this time and early in Turn 2

Hannibal: Rome Vs Carthage another golden (not too) oldie hits the table

Played game of Hannibal Rome Vs Carthage (Avalon Hill version) with my son (nned to make use of him whilst he is home) tonight and another topsy turvy but exciting card based game it proved to be.
Tactics/Strategy from us both a bit ropey to be honest as we got caught up in bashing each others armies with both Hannibal and Scipio Africanus being eliminated (both invading ports that they could not retreat from after being beaten in battle !!).
To be honest both were pants especially Hannibal who lost lots of units to attrition and failed to win a single battle.
However Mago and Nero (Pro-Consul most of game) both shone for respective sides.
Only last couple of turns with total Combat Units depleted did we really concentrate on placing Political Control markers and Province control.
All hinged on Gallia Transalpina with my failure to gain last subjugation point on a Carthage friendly Tribe allowing Steven to place a single PC marker to gain control of this Province to make it 9 Provinces controlled each which gives Carthage the default win ! Damn...................................................................................................................

Great game again with both of us pledging to do better next time :-)
