Paths Of Glory face to face (and brain barfs !!)

Played Paths Of Glory last night at my Fathers (seemed sort of apt for Remembrance Day).
This is a really good and interesting game and this face to face game will hopefully help with my ongoing Vassal game (I find I take in the rules much better in a live time game).
However we had to re-start the game after 2 turns as I suffered a major brain-barf over the rules regarding Forts and Sieges !!
Had whole rules search and confusion as to how this occurred and if/how units in Fort conducted themselves in a Siege.
This was all pointless as bottom line is we missed rule (which I should have known from this and WW2 version) that disallows entry into ANY enemy occupied space.
Thankfully whilst we had several sieges we had only done couple of turns so thought it best to just re-start.

Restarted game was excellent (even though we failed to finish) with stalemate on Western Front and much to-ing and fro-ing in East, Italy were causing problems in southern Germany (but boy are there units weak !)
Neither of us had much idea about Balkans or Near East portions nor the Cards/Actions to use in these 'sideshows' even if we did.
Italy, Bulgaria and Turkey had all entered the war and we were both using the initial Mobilization decks and the Limited War decks.
As with these CDG games I love the decision process required for play of each and every card and the strategies/actions they allow and/or frustrate.
This one will definitely get more play

Paths Of Glory - Vassal game

Just started a Vassal game pbem with a chap called Mike from USA (via AHIKS club) of Paths Of Glory board wargame.
Only on first turn and we are both trying to get to grips with the games rules, card play and the Vassal module.
But already this looks an interesting game with nasty Germans pushing forward on Western Front in August 1914.

Paths of Glory set-up

Managed to get counters sorted and game set-up ready for a solo try. This 2010 edition comes with an excellent mounted map board. Game play seems very similar to WW2 Barbarossa To Berlin (which is derived directly from POG of course). Nice spread of historical events on the cards. Looking forward to giving it a whirl.

Still buying if not playing !!

Just coming off a phase of mega-shifts (due to annual 'festivities' here in NI) so no gaming for what seems ages but thanks to the joys of iPhone and 3G I have managed to make a couple of purchases whilst absent !!
Couple for my impending 48th (aaarrrrggghhh how did that happen !!) birthday.

Love the Barbarossa To Berlin game that is directly derived from this so sort of a no-brainer and it gets good reviews. I am kinda taken with these card driven games.

A period of WWII I am very interested in and despite mixed reviews (seems more simulation than game to some) I could not resist.

Another period high on my interest list. A more complex CDG type game but again just irresistible.

My lead mountain is getting further down priority list but I really must get my AWI British at least started as they were last years birthday pressie !!!
