Hitler's Reich played

Game of Hitler's Reich with my Dad tonight.

Been a while since we played this.

A highly abstract but very fun experience with lots of wild swings of fortune but not much like history !

Axis controlled North African coast at one stage from Libya right across to Iraq !

Italy was knocked out of war in 1942 and Spain entered on Axis side.

Op Barbarossa not launched but Soviets not able to take any of Reich except Poland.

Allies too weak (only 5 card hard and all awful) to launch Overlord and Bagration.

We both got caught up in endless Land attacks and Blitzkriegs neglecting to utilize Events much.

Axis (Dad) won in 1945 with Substantial Victory having higher card allowance than Allies.

More board wargaming

Played several board wargames this week (to detriment of figure painting !).

Couple of solo (rule learning) run throughs of Colonial Twilight (playing this one face to face on Wednesday) and Commands & Colors Napoleonic (which I have had for awhile but never blooded).

Also played Hitlers Third Reich and Undaunted Normandy with my Dad.

Two games of HTR that both turned out as Allied wins pretty quickly with Fall Of Berlin and failed recapture attempts.
Love the speed of play of this wee gem.

Then a full 4 scenarios of Undaunted played with Machine Guns and Mortars both making appearances.
Another very slick game system with just enough WW2 flavour to bring us back to it.
Nothing approaching depth of other tactical games but very fast playing and pure fun.

Hitler's Reich gets another outing and is crushed !

A game of the very fun Hitler's Reich with my Dad last night.
Great fun with a lot of action as we both went for territory in lieu of 'buying' Event cards mostly.
Dad controlled the channel early but failed to invade London region successfully.
He decided not to launch Barbarossa (always a mistake I fear) and subsequently suffered a red wave once the Allies get there 'enhanced' Conflict Card hand at the end of 1943.
This saw Ivans launch a Blitzkrieg right through to Berlin which fell easily and with Nazis failing to retake it was an Auto-win for the Allies (well the Commie bit anyhow)

Nice fast paced and playable game.

Couple of new games inbound

Hitler's Reich once more

Another game with my son of this highly addictive game.

A very different game from last outing with the Reich facing a war on 3 fronts by 1944 but still managing to hold onto Berlin, The Ruhr and Austria for a Survival win despite ending with only 3 cards at end of 1945.

We also played a scenario from Combat Commander which I won but forgot to take a pic.

Hitler's Reich with my boy

My son Steven home for a few days and we played Hitler's Reich with Steven as Axis.

Another excellent game with varied fortunes until 1944 when my Op Overlord was a virtual failure (only taking Normandy) and Op Bagration having to be used to retake Stalingrad and Moscow.

We went into 1945 but Axis won by having both London and Moscow and Allies failing to retake Moscow.

Great fun once again.

Hitler's Reich another fine outing

Game of Hitler's Reich with my Dad and another excellent game it was.
My Dad as Axis went with a new strategy by essentially ignoring Russia in early war and taking control of the UK and surrounding seas despite the despairing efforts of the Royal Navy !
He then defended gains once Russia entered war holding out for a Survival Win at end of 1945.
Not holding UK means Op Overlord is a bust (ie does not take place) and leaves Op Bagration as only Allied major offensive.
I was unable to knock Axis out of Africa so Italy was not a route to Reich I could access either.
Op Bagration was only marginally successful and what gains I made were lost keeping me away from Berlin.
Fun stuff with this highly abstract but hugely enjoyable game.

Hitler's Reich and other stuff

Another game of Hitler's Reich with my Dad tonight and another fun game it was with my Allies finally triumphing in late 1944 after Strategic Bombing and the Fall of Italy saw Axis hand fall to zero for auto-win.
Yugoslavia and Romania must have changed hands about 5 times each !

Got so engrossed only took pic of set up !

Couple of purchases for New Year

Actually played several Dogfights with the original Rise of the Luftwaffe, which this replaces, tonight as well but forgot to take any pics !!!

And of course a rule set

And lo and behold a couple of PC games.

Son bought me Twilight Struggle and a very well implemented version of game it is.

Victory & Glory another board game conversion and another well executed port

Panzer Corps an update of the venerable Panzer General (this one cheap and cheerful at a mere £1.49 !!)

The Age of Belisarus an add-on to Field Of Glory II

And finally a game of Field Of Battle in the offing on New Years Eve the battle of Ramillies 1706 using my 10mm (with at least Le Duc maybe one or two others ?).
Table set up awaiting

Hitler's Reich another game

Another game with my Dad of this addictive game (so much so I have struggled to get anything else on table including Pavlov's House).

For first time we played through to end of 1945 with Germans (Dad) winning a minor victory by holding Berlin and two other production centers.
Lots of to and fro in this one with African theater dominating by Axis but Russia Axis free due to poor Barbarossa.
Overlord and Bagration both underwhelming and just could not get around Berlin as Axis always seemed to have big Conflict card to retake areas with the Ruhr region changing hands several times.

Just one pic from early 1942 situation with Finland and Romania converting to Soviet sphere (after Event play) and Malta in Axis hands (after a Paratroop assault)

Hitler's Reich more play time

Couple of games with my Dad with this addictive fast playing WW2-lite game.

Messed up first game however by forgetting to conduct end of year stuff (ie allocate random Events) so quickly re-started (very easy to do).

Second game was great with Dad pursuing a naval strategy against Britain instead of traditional Barbarossa in 1941.
However I was able to take Italy and strike into Germany supported in 1942 by Russians.
Eventually I surrounded Berlin and took it ending game as Germans had no adjacent area from which to launch a game saving counter blow.

Aborted game

Game two with Italy knocked out of war and Franco added to Axis

And a new acquisition (interested to compare to its fore-bearer We The People)

Hitlers Reich farewell game with son

Game of Hitlers Reich with my boy Steven who is fleeing the roost to work and live in foreign fields (well Chelmsford England but its far enough away to count as foreign to me.....sniff....).
And what a game it was with my first try with Axis powers.
Barbarossa nearly gave me game early on but then things swung Allies way and after Overlord/Bagration I was hanging on by a thread having to retake Berlin 4 times but failing eventually as 1945 loomed.
Great game this and a nice final fling with my boy.

At games end German expansion in the East but Berlin has fallen to Western Allies
