Lasalle a solo re-try

On a whim I decided to give Lasalle rules a run out (despite having several untried sets !) using my Prussians (bought and based for Lasalle) against my French.
Forgot what a slick fast playing set they are.
But as always I came up against the 'phalanx' problem wherein two Infantry units in Attack Column ('phalanx') simply run over Infantry in line as they generate double the dice generally.
Tried a couple of house rules such as extra dice for Line shooting but best I came across was if Attack Column suffers a Disruption it must form Line with possible consequences on neighbouring columns etc.

Several pics as I played this over several days as time at a premium at present...........

Lasalle more pics

More pics from ongoing Lasalle game

Lasalle solo

Having played Imperial Eagles (which is in many ways a Lasalle derivative) I decided to have a go with Lasalle itself as been ages since I tried them.
Am trying a house rules for Attack Columns wherein they cannot shoot (as in Shako) and only one can attack each face of an enemy so no doubling up on a line in melee.
I had forgotten what a slick and comprehensive and playable set of rules these are by Sam Mustafa.
My Liberation War Prussians versus Young Guard for a change :-)

And being on a Napoleonic splurge at present I have ordered these from another of my favourite authors Dave Brown

Prussians based

Finished basing latest batch of Prussians this evening. One Lassalle type unit of Prussian Line Infantry 7th West Prussian Regiment 1st Battalion (Black Hat figures). Also a Shako unit (ie 12 figs) 4th Battalion 7th West Prussian using the painted figures I bought (manufacturer unknown and 90% re-painted !) at Warfare along with 4 bases of Jager and a Lasalle unit of Foot Artillery (again don't know which figure range ?).

First unit of Old Glory Grenadiers now on painting table.

Photos bit underlit as usual

Lasalle: Prussian vs French Young Guard 1813

Played a Lasalle 'army builder' game at mine versus Stephen tonight using my Prussians against his mean Young Guard Division. Quite dense terrain table made for very interesting encounter especially when the French off-table reserve arrived on its second turn (uncanny how he gets them to arrive with low rolls !).  I used the on-table Cavalry Abteilung (so as my recently completed Landwehr Cavalry units could be fielded). Lots of maneuvering on both sides with my East Prussian Battalion taking the central town as a French Infantry brigade occupied the adjacent woodlands. My Cavalry Brigade moved to my left wing from central deployment to try to counter the early arriving French mounted Brigade. French 'Grand Battery' in center eventually blew my foot Artillery to bits opening a hole that mounted and foot were poised to exploit.
Fun game as ever and always nice to see our Napoleonic units in action.  We managed 13 turns before pre-set finishing time (2300hrs) and whilst no clear decision it was looking like a French marginal win in the offing. I also got to use several new trees I bought on sojurn to Scotland in August.

Hoping to give Field of Battle 2 an outing on Saturday possibly with ACW troops.
