Field Of Glory Ancients - Turgesh versus T'Ang Chinese

Game of FOGA at Stephens using a Central Asian Turk (Khazar) force against his T'Ang Chinese.
A very tense game with lots of maneuver including a successful flank march by two Turk Cavalry units.
Only downside being they arrived on turn two sort of giving the game away a tad.
We both put down a lot of terrain as both armies fielded almost half foot units.
This made for a cagey affair especially with my flank attack.
T'Ang have a lot of bow armed types whereas I mostly had Lances or other melee weapons.
Stephens foot had some tremendous rolls when charged by a couple of my mounted units saving him from several Cohesion tests and Death rolls.
Having an inspired General is a big bonus to Cohesion.

We failed to finish game as a lot Salute stories and acquisitions inspected.
But when we concluded my army was suffering a lot of Disruptions and several Fragmented/Routed troops so things were certainly looking favourable for the T'Ang.

Nice rules that suit a minimum preparation type game (one just points up an army and brings it).

Phone pics so bit fuzzy

Turk foot (Slavs and Bowmen) occupy a field with mounted on flanks

T'Ang foot arrayed (Crossbowmen and mixed Javelin/Bow)

Turk Horse Archers try to pin down T'Ang on my right prior to flank march

Flank march arrives a tad early

T'Ang withdraw in face of superior numbers

Turks trying to turn the flank

Clash of foot and Turk Cavalry in centre

Further action on right flank

And in the centre

Turk cavalry fail to break through and now Slav foot on left are threatened

Field Of Glory Ancients game

Managed to hobble over to Stephens to play a FOGA game (been a while) using my Minoans against his Hittites with 47 Chariots on table between us.
Very nice game it was too.
My spearmen are like a moving wall as tough to defeat when steady but not really capable of attacking steady enemy themselves.
I did manage to paint up (shock ! gasp !) a new unit of 24 medium foot types for the game !
Minoan Chariots are all heavy (and slow) whilst Hittites have nice mix of heavies and lights, some with shooting capability so more flexible.
I had a unit of medium foot archers which are usually fodder but they managed to shoot up a unit of Chariots this time.
However Hittites have a couple of tougher foot units with Impact ability or Swords which outclassed my foot punching a whole in middle of my line.
A dice fest clash of opposing heavy Chariot line saw Hittites come out winners as eventually.
Great game though with two fun to use and dare I say handsome (sounds more manly than pretty) armies.

Another set of crappy photos as only had phone with me

A Field Of Glory Ancients and Shogun Saturday with a new arrival....................

Had a quick game of Field Of Glory with Stephen using my Romans versus Carthaginians.
Not much to say about this one as it was straightforward bash in center of table which which went the way of Carthage in the end.
We are finding FOG a great system for quick games when time for preparation is minimal or non-existent and we just want to play a game.

Later it was three player game of Shogun with my Dad and son (home from England for a few days).
Great fun with this game.
Nice components combined with Risk style domination and combat systems make for good game.
I twice managed to obtain services of the Ninja and took out enemy Daimyos including my lads last one whom I then managed to destroy with my experience level of 2 ending the game in my favour.

This also arrived and I hope to get a game set up and played with these asap

On the table Imperial Eagle (and watched game of Field Of Glory Ancients)

Have set up a game to trial this latest Napoleonic set Imperial Eagle which I have acquired.
Not strictly able to go with the orders of battle contained in book as I do not have the correct French types but should be fairly balanced I hope.
Rules generally seem to have a Division of 2-3  Brigades with usually 1 or at most 2 Support Brigades but I have used forces a tad larger to try various troops types.
Only played a couple of turns but initial reaction is that I like the overall simplicity of the rules as regards combat and movement mechanics.
Some concepts are not fully defined and have asked a for a few clarifications on TMP (no reply from author as yet). Has very much the look and feel of Lasalle or Napoleon at War game (in fact I used one of the Lasalle maps) but with simpler mechanics overall.
Will flesh out a fuller opinion of rules once I play some more.

Also today spectated a game between the brothers Brittain as they fielded a Scots Common versus Feudal English encounter using Field Of Glory V2.
A fun game with the Scots spear manfully making a comeback after their Isleman Allies were crushed on a wing.
A highlight was a lowly unit of Scots skirmishing bowmen shooting to Rout a unit of English Superior Knights (!!!!!) as they rolled 2 dice 3 times getting 2 hits each time causing 3 Cohesion tests on Knights which they promptly failed three times despite attention of a General.
Not often something like this happens.
However couple of Scots Spear succumbed to English Bow/Swordsmen bringing the army to Breakpoint despite having destroyed or routed a couple of English foot units.
Both armies much more usable and indeed much more fun to field in FOG than DBMM was overall opinion.

Field Of Glory Ancients game Han Chinese vs Early Nomad

Managed to squeeze in a game of FOG this weekend against Stephen who wanted to try his Han army  with FOG.
I chose a historical match up using the Early Nomad list (looking distinctly Turkish however). So lots of Light Horse and Cavalry archers against lots of Han foot with some Cavalry.
The Han foot are tough despite being only Average status as the combination of front rank Heavy Weapons and rear rank Crossbowmen is too tough for the Nomads.
Terrain layout did not help my cause as no open flanks and little space to dance with mounted.
I did send two Cavalry units on an outflank but this proved decidedly underwhelming as one unit failed to arrive due to straggling !
Finding no gaps to exploit I pulled my stuff back but even in open field the Han are fairly immune to the Light Horse types whether flanked or not.
I did catch a unit in open with my Superior heavier cavalry but even with a General in front rank (allowing me to re-roll 1's and 2's) when I rolled my 4 dice needing 5's I rolled 1 x 5 and 3 x 3 !!!
Of course I then was out scored and proceeded to lose a base to a death roll.
Good game as ever.
