Storm Over Stalingrad played

Played first proper game of Storm Over Stalingrad with my Dad tonight. Great game very quick and easy to play. Russians took massive losses but held out losing only two Victory Areas (five needed for German win). Only problem we had was with some of the card interactions as not too clear if any precedence of play order but nothing too onerous.

Using iPad app to publish this post so not sure how it will turn out
Postscript: bit limited compared to PC version re pics etc but easy to fix

Overall view of the game

Horrendous Ivan casualties but they held out overall to thwart the Nazis.

  5. Looks good, I assume no good for solo play due to the cards?

  7. Game play is quick and straightforward (only 6 pages of rules) Impulse based like Storm Over Arnhem and you either Move or fire and activated units then spent for rest of turn. Cards are mainly tactical assets types (Artillery or Aircraft strikes, Minefields) with a couple of more event based types. Not ideal for solo but doable. Sniper cards act like trump cards cancelling all others but if sniper played in response to enemy sniper you perform a sniper duel (dice roll off with Ivans winning equal or higher). Other cards like Overrun allow extra actions or Rubble/Mines reactive actions in enemy impulse. Six turns easily played in 30mins each so 3 or so hours game time overall (maybe another 30mins setup time)

A pretty decisive win for the Reds - I'm not sure we would play the game enough to get into the bidding areas for victory to determine the sides. The last game I played went down to the last turn, with me as the Reds losing the last victory area on the last impulse of the game - arghhh!
