Just ordered this beastie from BoardGameGuru and awaiting its arrival.
Another tactical type game with some tactical asset cards and a rather interesting turn/initiative order system.
Looks comparable to the Conflict Of Heroes series but maybe a bit more specific and meatier.
I simply cannot help mineself !
Another elegant an complete by the Jansens and GMT. It doesn't get on my table simply because of time.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the initiative track system - very fun WH to play.
Great buy Gary - looking forward to a run-through from you. Being a Field of Battle man you will find the up and down dice sizes for fire factor amendments quite intuitive, and the hard choice of whether to rally a unit and burn an action or press on regardless reminiscent of Maurice. That said, FF is its own game and not Combat Commander with tanks (which is actually what I was hoping for, but I like the game anyway) and we played it quite a bit for us over the last year. The reason we haven't played it more is that is that 2/3(?) perhaps of the scenarios take longer than our time limit for a game which is surprising for a skirmish game - however you and your da seem to wiz through games, so this may not be a problem for you :-). The scenarios aren't numbered in the order you should play them to ease the learning curve either - we are playing them in the order the designer recommended on BGG which is 0, 9, 8, 4, 7, 6, 5, 3, 1, 10 & 2 – apparently to scenario 2 would take most of a long weekend for experienced players to play. Cheers, Norman
ReplyDeleteMaurice and FOB !! Now I am really drooling for this :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's a very interesting damage system as well. A "hit" can mean anything from supression to a kill. Artillery can be devastating but that lucky small arms fire shot has a chance of doing some damage as well. Accumulative damage can really stop a unit cold. This is where the rally system can really throw a tough decision in as rallying success is a matter of chance as well.
ReplyDeleteIts has just arrived but I got to go to work until midnight !!!
