This is a rather tough task for French as only three crossing points (two bridges and a ford) for non-skirmishers despite having greater numbers of troops.
I did launch several 'Forcing A Passage' attacks but all were initially beaten off with several of my units being routed (Stephens melee dice were pretty good) including my best unit the Baden Dragoons !
I did eventually manage to take the two bridges but Army Morale losses were such that my morale pool had dwindled and I quit the field on first eligible Army Morale roll (Russians had 5 Morale remaining out of 21 with 3 'gifted' by French from their 30)
As usual with FOB this was a slick fast playing game full of incident and key rolls, not much manouvre due to the choke points but still good stuff and completed in reasonable playing time.
Baden Dragoons routing back across bridge after nasty Russian musketry, they did rally but Infantry had taken bridge by then so took no further part in proceedings.
And a final birthday purchase (61 yikes !!!!!) arrived as well.
Will I play them who knows but nice to have a lite option for skirmish level games.
Happy birthday! You are still a young 'un...
ReplyDeleteWas actually back on 25th so even older now !! I fell young but mirror says differently :-)
DeleteHappy birthday. I am a year younger than you so don't feel too bad :-)
ReplyDeleteFeeling fine thankfully although my running, jumping and hopping about days are behind me I fear :-)
DeleteBelated birthday. Good looking game and a nice present for quick but fun games.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Bolt Action firmly in the Beer & Pretzels/McDonalds style system, fun for quick or occasional use but ultimately lacking substance. However if sticking to using historical OOBS etc then its fine.
DeleteHappy Birth day! Great looking game and FoB 3 is our go to ruleset!
ReplyDeleteCheers and FOB always my first choice too but will play other sets for different reasons (smaller games generally)
DeleteFOB never disappoints. Not sure a strictly mano o mano version viable (Squad level lowest representation from Brents upcoming combo set) ?. As you know I always like to have variety/options as playing a guitar with only 1 or 2 strings gets restrictive in numbers of tunes possible to play after awhile no matter how sweet the sound :-)
ReplyDeleteThough the man to man option in first edition piquet ww2 / blitzkrieg (then removed from second), is but an 'FoB conversion' I suspect. There is also a western set which has done this, so I will take a look at doing a modern man to man set...I think the card draw mechanism eminently suits 20th/21st century chaos.
ReplyDelete...power chords only require two strings, and if everything sounds like rock music, it's no bad thing :))
