Snappy Nappy a little solo outing

Decided to give Snappy Nappy rules a solo outing as not used in a long while.

Random terrain set up and both sides chosen at 300 points from the booklet being French versus Prussians 1813/14 period

Both sides had 4 Infantry and 2 Cavalry Divisions with some Veteran and Guard units.

Very slick game so easy to play and pick up.

Lot of abstraction at its scale (eg no skirmishers) but it works very well.

Only real issue was fully comprehending the meaning of the Orders as to what restrictions say Screen has compared to Probe or Attack, get the feeling these are not that proscriptive in keeping with fast playing nature of system.

Some multiple melee situations also took a bit of sorting but nothing onerous

The Morale system and use of D10 can be brutal (especially with my rolling) but works well and the Sequence of Play is also slick and interactive.

Would love to try one of the multi-table campaigns the system seems to shine with but as a standard 1:1 game its fine especially for grand tactical level.

  1. Looks marvellous Gary. A large-scale, stylised set is a great way to get a lot of troops in a solo game.
    Best wishes, James

    1. SN certainly does what it sets out to do. The higher the level of game scale the greater the level of abstraction/simplicity required to make a playable game. True for any period

  4. Seems every multi table campaign had me go toe to toe with one or two adversaries, using up 80% of the game time. In our first go round it was 90% of the time, and against my weekly opponent, no less.

    1. The multi-table campaigns that Peter Anderson partake in seem awesome

    2. Awesome is a good term. Lots of prep and support inbolved: does make for a long day. There is usually a little technical change from year to year.

  5. Cracking battle report, Gary! Snappy Nappy is a brilliant, fast-flowing system for getting a proper grand-tactical Napoleonic clash onto the board.

    1. Yes nice and fast and yet retains Napoleonic feel. Even a 'standard' 1v1 worked well.
